Sligo Rovers' appeal against the red card issued to goalkeeper Sam Sargeant during last Saturday's Premier Division clash against Shelbourne has been successful.

As a result, Sargeant will be eligible to play for the Bit O' Red in this weekend's league fixture away to St Pat's Athletic at Richmond Park.

The 27-year-old netminder was sent off at the Showgrounds after he was adjudged to have handled the ball outside the box by referee Rob Harvey, although replays suggest it may have been on the line. The dismissal compounded a bad night for John Russell's side; their 2-0 defeat ended a five-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Today saw Sligo's appeal for the wrongful dismissal of their goalkeeper upheld by an an independent appeal committee of the FAI.
