Brighton have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland Under-19 defender Sean Keogh from Dundalk.

The 19-year-old, who scored two goals in 38 appearances for Dundalk, will link up with the Premier League club's under-21 squad after both parties agreed on an undisclosed six-figure fee.

The deal was first reported by RTÉ last month.

Keogh sat his Leaving Cert this summer and follows in the footprints of Richie Towell, who joined Brighton from the Lilywhites in 2015.

Seagulls U21s boss Shannon Ruth said: "We’re really pleased to have signed Sean.

"He’s got a lot of the attributes and qualities we look for in our young players and we’re looking forward to seeing how he develops in our setup this season."

A statement from Dundalk read: "The transfer reflects Sean's talent and dedication, as well as the hard work of our academy and coaching staff. We are proud to see one of our own take the next step in his career and join a Premier League club.

"We would like to thank Sean for his commitment during his time at Oriel Park. Everyone at Dundalk FC wishes him all the best as he embarks on this exciting new chapter with Brighton & Hove Albion."
