Liverpool are set to make an offer for striker Hugo Ekitike as talks with Eintracht Frankfurt progress.

The highly-rated 23-year-old has attracted interest from the Premier League this summer having scored 22 goals in all competitions after making a loan move from Paris St Germain permanent last summer.

Newcastle had looked at bringing in Ekitike as Liverpool considered a big-money move for Alexander Isak, who it is understood the Magpies valued at around £150million in an attempt to ward off potential suitors.

But the Reds are now pressing ahead with a deal for France international Ekitike, with it a matter of when rather than if a bid is submitted following talks.

Liverpool are reportedly preparing a deal in the region of €80million (£69.2million), with sources close to the player indicating that Newcastle look out of the race to sign a striker that Manchester United also hold interest in.

Arne Slot's Premier League champions have signed Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez this summer, with Giorgi Mamardashvili linking up with the side after agreeing a move last August.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have added to their Norwegian ranks by signing teenager Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg.

The 18-year-old midfielder has agreed a five-year contract taking him through to the summer of 2030.

Nypan, who made his first team debut for Norwegian side Rosenborg at the age of 15, told City's website: "I am incredibly happy and proud to have joined Manchester City.

"It’s a dream for any young footballer to become part of this club and to join such a group of world-class talent.

"I am still very young with a lot to learn but the chance to be coached by Pep Guardiola, the best manager in the world, will only help me to become a better player.

"There is already a special connection between Norway and Manchester City through Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb, and I am very proud to have become the latest Norwegian player to have joined the club."

Nypan has made 70 senior appearances for Rosenborg, registering 14 goals and 11 assists.

He is City’s fifth signing of the summer after left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, winger Rayan Cherki, midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.
