Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah in a £35m deal.

The Bundesliga side will pay £30m up front for the 22-year-old centre-back, who started last season alongside Virgil van Dijk against Ipswich but was substituted at half-time and never regained his regular starting place.

Liverpool are also understood to have inserted a buy-back option into the deal for their academy graduate, who joined the club as a five-year-old.

A statement on the Reds' official website read: "Jarell Quansah has completed a transfer from Liverpool to Bayer Leverkusen.

"Everybody at LFC would like to thank Jarell for his contributions and wish him the very best for the future."

The England Under-21 international, who made his debut in 2023 and went on to make 58 appearances, leaves Anfield as a Premier League champion and Carabao Cup winner.

Leverkusen welcomed Quansah with a message on their official X account which read: "Liv to Lev. Welcome to Bayer 04, Jarell Quansah!"

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 05: (THE SUN OUT, THE SUN ON SUNDAY OUT) Luis Diaz of Liverpool celebrating after scoring the fourth goal during the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD4 match between Liverpool FC and Bayer 04 Leverkusen at Anfield on November 05, 2024 in Liverpool, England.

Meanwhile, the Anfield side have rejected an approach from Bayern Munich for Colombia forward Luis Diaz.

The Premier League champions have no intention of selling the 28-year-old, who played a key role in Liverpool's title success last term.

Bayern are the second club to have registered an interest in Diaz this summer, with Barcelona having already been rebuffed.

Diaz, who joined Liverpool from Porto in 2022, has two years left on his contract.

He scored 17 goals for the Reds last season, 13 of them in the league as Arne Slot's side won the title by 10 points. He has 41 goals in 148 appearances for Liverpool.

Last month, Diaz said he was happy at Anfield but his representatives had held discussions with other clubs.

Speaking during a press conference before Colombia's World Cup qualifier against Peru, Diaz said: "We are currently in contact with Liverpool, because we are talking to clubs, and that's normal given the transfer market that's opening. We're trying to arrange what's best for us.

"We're talking to clubs, it's normal in the market and we're looking at what's best for us.

"I'm waiting to see what happens. I'm very happy at Liverpool, I've always said so. They've welcomed me very well from day one.

"If they give us a good renewal or I stay there for two years, I'll be happy. Now it's up to them."

Chelsea have announced the signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton.

The versatile Brazilian forward has linked up with his new team-mates in the United States for the rest of their Club World Cup campaign and could be in line to make his debut in the quarter-final against Palmeiras.

Pedro's arrival, on an eight-year contract for a reported £60 million (€69.4m), comes in a summer of heavy spending at Stamford Bridge, with Liam Delap already signed from Ipswich and a deal for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens seemingly imminent.

"Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history," Pedro said on the Chelsea website.

"They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now, so I am excited to join and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing - win."

Pedro, 23, was reported to have also been a target for Newcastle and is the fourth player Chelsea have signed from Brighton in recent years, with Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella and Robert Sanchez also having made the switch from the south coast.

The Brazilian, who has three senior caps, will compete with Delap and Nicolas Jackson for a starting role up front next season but can also be deployed in midfield as well as off the left flank.

Jarrad Branthwaite joins Everton and Ireland captain Seamus Coleman in signing a new deal

Jarrad Branthwaite has signed a new five-year contract with Everton.

The 23-year-old defender arrived at the club from Carlisle in January 2020 and enjoyed loan spells with Blackburn and PSV Eindhoven before breaking into the Toffees' first team.

Branthwaite made 30 league appearances for Everton last season as they finished 13th in the Premier League table and had been linked with a big-money move away from the club.

"I'm over the moon. It's been something we've been talking about since the end of the season and to get it signed now is something I'm really excited about," Branthwaite told EvertonTV after signing a new deal that runs until June 2030.
