The winner of the all-Irish clash between Shelbourne and Linfield in the Champions League will face Azerbaijani side Qarabag FK in the second round, while another cross-border clash could take place in the UEFA Conference League following today's draws.
It will be a tough ask for the Champions League first round winner between the champions of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland against a Qarabag side regularly featuring in the outright Europa or Conference League.
The first leg will be played on 22 or 23 July, with the Irish side at home, followed by leg two on 29 or 30 July.
The loser of the Shels-Blues tie will drop into the Conference League second round where they will play the defeated side between FK Žalgiris from Lithuania and Hamrun Spartans of Malta.
Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers could face Cliftonville in the second round of Europa Conference League qualifying.
The Hoops will play the winner of the first round tie between the Belfast side and St Joseph's of Gibraltar.
Shels took on St Joseph's last year and defeated them 3-2 on aggregate in the first round.

St Patrick's Athletic will play the winner of the match between Nõmme Kalju FC of Estonia and FK Partizani from Albania, if they can progress to the second round.
The Saints will play FC Hegelmann of Lithuania in the first round.
The draw was a fortunate one for the Saints with some of the highest rank sides in the second round among their possible opponents.
Meanwhile Rangers will face Panathinaikos in Russell Martin's first game in charge after being pitted against the Greek side in the draw for the second qualifying round of the Champions League.
The Ibrox club were seeded, with Swiss side Servette and Norwegian outfit Brann their other two potential opponents.
However, former MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton boss Martin, appointed by the Gers earlier this month, faces a tricky starter after landing a July showdown with the highest-ranked team of the trio.
