Derry City's shocking current run continued, as another disappointing display meant that Galway United deservedly secured a point, at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.
David Hurley's early penalty gave United the lead but that was cancelled out by Kevin Holt's lucky equaliser and while City had chances in the first half, their poor second half showing meant they had to settle for a point.
United missed a glorious chance to break the deadlock on four minutes as Patrick Hickley flicked on Edward McCarthy's throw-in to find Moses Dyer, but the front man fired over from close range.
To their credit City should have taken the lead minutes later as Sam Todd's left wing cross wasn't turned home by either Michael Duffy or Gavin Whyte when the goal was at their mercy.
The visitors did open the scoring on ten minutes as another McCarthy throw-in was nodded by Hickley and referee Declan Toland felt that Mark Connolly had fouled Dyer inside the six yard box, so he awarded a penalty,
After City's protests were waved away, Hurley stepped up and calmly sent City goalkeeper Brian Maher the wrong way and slotted the ball low into the bottom left hand corner. Tiernan Lynch's men levelled things eight minutes later in somewhat fortunate circumstances as Whyte's left wing cross into the six yard only found United's Greg Cunningham, but his clearance deflected off Kevin Holt and into the net. Just after the half-hour mark a teasing cross by Jeannot Esua found Hickey inside the six yard box, but his downward header failed to trouble Maher and flashed wide.
On 40 minutes Danny Mullen missed a gilt-edged chance when he blazed over from 10 yards, after the ball fell to him nicely inside the box.
Right on the stroke of half-time Duffy's right wing free-kick found Todd at the back post, but the big defender's powerful header clipped the top of Evan Watts' net.
City never really got going in the second half and made three changes with Paul McMullan, Sadou Diallo and Liam Boyce all coming on, to try and inject some life into their performance.
The changes were made but in truth neverly really sparked any life into what was a poor second half display for the home side.
