Athlone Town's season has gone from bad to worse, with five high-profile players released by the club.
The Midlands outfit, currently bottom of the First Division, have been without a manager since the departure of Dario Costello last month, reliant on an interim management team plucked from its underage set-up.
And now the club has confirmed that Adam Wixted, Declan McDaid, Kyle O'Connor, JR Wilson and Bastien Héry have been released. Danny Byrne, one of the interim coaches, has also had to step aside.
The club did not disclose the reasoning behind their decision.
Town have been linked with a takeover this year without it coming to pass and talk has cooled in recent weeks.
None of the players will be available to move elsewhere until the transfer window reopens on 1 July.
Athlone have been seeking new investors for some time. The arrangement with US-based Valeo Futbol Partnership ended towards the end of last year.
Town host Cobh Ramblers on Friday evening in Lisywollen. Whilst propping up the table, they remain only five points off the play-off places.
