Cork City have appointed Gerard Nash as the club's new first team manager, filling the vacancy left by Tim Clancy's exit last week.
Clancy brought the curtain down on his 18-month spell in charge shortly after last Friday's SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division defeat to Derry City at Turner's Cross.
The Meathman had guided Cork back into the top flight for this season but the injury-hit team are second from bottom in the Premier Division after 15 rounds of action.
Nash, whose most recent role was a coaching position with Swedish club GAIS, has now been tasked with reviving Cork's fortunes, although Liam Kearney and Greg Yelverton will take charge of the team for Friday night's game away at Stephen Kenny's St. Patrick’s Athletic.
Kearney will also continue interim assistant manager until the club make a permanent appointment.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed as the new men's first team manager at Cork City FC," Nash said.
"Everyone in Ireland knows the history that the club has, its fantastic support base, and the potential within the existing players. I have watched a lot of the league this season from afar, and I have no doubt that there is so much more we can deliver."
The 38-year-old Kildare native, who has also had coaching roles with the FAI and at Ipswich and Aston Villa, added: "Everyone in the league knows that Cork City are one of the biggest clubs in the country and Turner’s Cross is a great place to watch a game of football. I know we have quality in the dressing room, and I cannot wait to get started."
Cork City owner Dermot Usher said he was hopeful that Nash could help propel the club up the table.
"I am very pleased to welcome Ger to the club. He has a long and very impressive track record as a coach, and he really impressed us with his thoughts on taking on the role," he said.
"From speaking to him, I know how motivated he is to take on the job, and I know he will give it everything he has. Everyone at the club wants to see us improve and begin to climb the table, and I share Ger's belief that we have the talent in our dressing room to improve."
