Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth scored all the goals in a 4-0 victory against former club Real Sociedad which closed the gap on second-placed city rivals Real.

The Norway international registered a five-minute hat-trick inside the first 11 minutes as Diego Simeone's side moved to within five of their neighbours, who play the Clasico on Sunday, and secured Champions League qualification.

Fifth-placed Villarreal boosted their hopes of joining them with a 1-0 win at Girona courtesy of substitute Etta Eyong's 89th-minute goal.

Celta Vigo's 3-2 victory over Sevilla moved them into the European places, with Mallorca's inferior goal difference the only thing keeping them out of the top eight after beating bottom side Real Valladolid 2-1.

Thomas Muller said farewell to the Allianz Arena after 25 years at the club in Bayern Munich's 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach.

However, the goals went to Harry Kane, who became the first player to score 25 league goals in their first two seasons, and Michael Olise.

Freiburg's 2-1 win at Holsten Kiel strengthened their position in the race for Champions League football, Mainz took advantage of the goalless draw between Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig to move into sixth while struggling Heidenheim's 3-0 victory at Union Berlin boosted their survival hopes.

In Serie A, 10-man Juventus conceded an equaliser to Lazio's Matias Vecino in the sixth added minute as they let slip their grip on the chase for the Champions League.

Randal Kolo Muani's 51st-minute goal had potentially given the fourth-placed side a three-point cushion over their opponents immediately below them with two matches to play but Pierre Kalulu's red card let the hosts back into the game.

Empoli moved themselves out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Parma, who played an hour with 10 men after Lautaro Valenti was sent off.

Much-changed Champions League finalists Paris Saint-Germain were 4-1 winners at Montpellier thanks to a hat-trick for Goncalo Ramos after Senny Mayulu had opened the scoring.

In Portugal, Sporting will have to wait until the final day of the Primeira Liga season as they bid to retain their title after being held to a 1-1 draw at second-placed rivals Benfica.

The Portuguese capital pair started the match level on points but Sporting, with the advantage due to their head-to-head record, edged closer to a 21st league title when Francisco Trincao fired them into the lead after four minutes.

Benfica equalised in the 63rd through Kerem Akturkoglu's tap-in from close range after Vangelis Pavlidis sliced through Sporting's defence with a dazzling solo run, bringing the home crowd at the Estadio da Luz back to life.

Sporting remain in pole position and will clinch the title by at least matching Benfica's result on the final day. They host Vitoria Guimaraes while Benfica visit Sporting Braga in what will be a dramatic conclusion to the season next Saturday.
