Shelbourne have rewarded Kerr McInroy with a new multi-year contract just nine games into his career at Tolka Park.

The Scot has been a standout performer in the heart of midfield for the Reds and scored the winning goal against Sligo Rovers.

The 24-year-old has started eight of the nine games he has played and looks set to be a regular for the remainder of their title defence, as well as Champions League qualifiers to come.

The former Celtic player was named among the nominees for the LOI Player of the Month award in March.

McInroy said: "It was a no brainer for me to extend my contract. I have loved every minute of my short time at the club so far, so I was delighted to get this sorted.

"Everyone at Shels has been brilliant with me and made me feel so welcome from the first day I came in. I am looking forward to more nights at Tolka Park with everyone."

Manager Damien Duff did not hold back in his priase of McInroy: "Humble, respectful, honest, resilient, driven, confident, clever, positive, energetic, consistent, affable, brilliant.

"To some that would be the perfect player. To us, it is Kerr."

Shelbourne face Drogheda United on Friday night knowing victory could see them leapfrog the leaders to go back to the summit.
