Amber Barrett becoming a good 'headache' for Carla Ward's Ireland - Rachel Graham

This day last week, the Republic of Ireland continued to steady the ship in their UEFA Women's Nations League group.

A 2-1 victory at Tallaght Stadium meant a second win over Greece in the span of five days and helped to eradicate some of the after-taste from February's chastening 4-0 defeat to Slovenia.

Amber Barrett was one of the players to state a case for further inclusion as the Standard Liege striker found the net both in Crete and the home game - the latter via the penalty spot.

And the Donegal woman's performances in the window just gone will make it increasingly difficult for her to be left out of Carla Ward's starting line-up for the early summer fixtures against Turkey and Slovenia, according to Shelbourne midfielder and former Ireland international Rachel Graham.

"I think she's a headache now. In fairness to Amber, I think she feels she deserves that starting position and she's not someone who seems to be moping around about it or sulking," Graham said on the RTÉ Soccer Podcast of a striker whose goal against Scotland in an October 2022 play-off was critical to Ireland's qualification for a maiden World Cup.

"When she comes on the pitch, she's playing like she has a point to prove and she did that when she came on on Friday (4 April) and took her goal really well. You could see what it meant to her afterwards.

"The game wasn't tight but it still meant so much to her and she started the game on Tuesday and I think she did really well.

"For me she was actually our best player. I think dropping in to receive was really good and she probably gives us more in behind than Kyra Carusa would.

"But I think the only thing that maybe might go against Amber is that I think that if she had've scored from open play (last Tuesday), I think she would've had a much stronger case to start.

"But it's definitely a headache for Carla. I think Amber has done very well coming in. She's come on in games and done very well, and started and done very well.

"It's a headache you obviously want to have but I definitely think it's a tough decision for Carla to have in the next game."
