Republic of Ireland midfielder Ruesha Littlejohn is bound for the League of Ireland Women's Premier Division, with Shamrock Rovers confirming the news of their high-profile signing this evening.
The 34-year old midfielder left the London City Lionesses "by mutual consent" in January, and Hoops player Rachel Graham told the RTÉ Soccer podcast on Monday that Littlejohn's move to Tallaght was imminent.
Shamrock Rovers announced the news in a post on X this evening, in what is a boost for the domestic game.
The Glasgow-born midfielder has earned 87 caps for Republic of Ireland since making her international debut back in 2012. Littlejohn became an integral part of the side during their rise to prominence and was an influential figure in the landmark 2023 World Cup campaign.
She has enjoyed a colourful club career over the years, beginning with Glasgow City, spending loan spells at both Celtic and Rangers, as well as playing for Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham, Leicester City, Birmingham City and Aston Villa, before signing for London City Lionesses in 2023.
Domestic players, formerly a regular presence on the women's national team, have largely disappeared from the set-up in recent years.
None were named in Carla Ward's recent Nations League squad, when Littlejohn started both games against Turkey and Slovakia.
Shamrock Rovers began their campaign - their third since the revival of the women's team - with a 2-1 win away to Shelbourne at the weekend.
