Shelbourne's Rachel Graham relishing Ruesha Littlejohn's impending Shamrock Rovers move

On Saturday, the new SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division campaign got underway with one of the notable results seeing reigning FAI Cup holders Shelbourne suffering a late, late defeat to Shamrock Rovers at Tolka Park.

Shels' veteran midfielder Rachel Graham is hopeful her side will bounce back quickly from that setback.

But whilst sharing an insight into what the current Hoops side are like to play against on this week's RTÉ Soccer Podcast, the former Republic of Ireland international also gave her take on reports of talks that could see a potential new high-profile arrival land at Rovers - namely current Girls in Green midfielder Ruesha Littlejohn.

Should the 34-year-old sign on the dotted line at Tallaght Stadium, it would be a huge boost to the profile of the league, according to Graham.

"I know they're potentially going to make a new signing soon so she'll obviously add a lot of quality and a lot of experience to their team," she said of the prospect of the 2023 FIFA World Cup squad member joining rivals Rovers.

"First and foremost, you'd love to see the league growing. Obviously, you want your team to do the best but look, I wouldn't begrudge anyone who's trying to promote the game or get the game more publicity.

"But as far as I've heard (the deal) it's done, I just imagine they're waiting on international clearance at the minute.

"She obviously wasn't playing Saturday but I expect it to be announced in the next few weeks and that's just a little birdie might have told me that one.

"But I think it's brilliant for the league, like any publicity is brilliant for us and I do think the fact that the men's league is doing so, so well and it's brilliant - I'm a big League of Ireland fan - but I feel sometimes we (the women's game) get a bit lost in that because the men play Friday night and all the media coverage is about the men's game and then we play Saturday early so there's not much of a window where we get our own time and I think sometimes we might get a bit lost in the men's promotion.

"Credit to the men's league, it's brilliant, it's flying. It deserves all of the attention but hopefully we can get a bit more for ourselves and a bit more focus on our games."
