Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna says he is keeping his fingers crossed for Sammie Szmodics after the Republic of Ireland attacker was forced off with another injury in their FA Cup win at Coventry on Saturday.
The Tractor Boys earned a 4-1 win away to Coventry in the FA Cup to advance to the fifth round, with the Fermanagh man making 11 changes to his relegation-battling Ipswich starting line-up.
Szmodics was among those to come into the side, playing his first game in over a month after an ankle injury, and won an early penalty barely 20 seconds into the game.
However, the 29-year-old, who has 10 caps to date, was forced off before half-time after twice going down needing treatment.
"I don't know about a recurrence, but it's the same ankle," McKenna said.
"The chances are it's probably linked. That's a big blow, no doubt about it.
"We really, really enjoyed having him back with us training this week. He gives us a different dynamic, a different maturity, a different age profile and a different type of player. We'll keep our fingers crossed but I think that's the big downside of the day."
Fellow Ireland midfielder Jack Taylor also started against Coventry, before being subbed off on 79 minutes, while Dara O'Shea was rested entirely.
Chiedozie Ogbene remains a long-term absentee however after his Achilles injury earlier in the season.
