Shamrock Rovers have missed out on one of their transfer targets for the new season with Darragh Burns opting to join Grimsby Town.
The Dubliner moves to Blundell Park on a deal until the summer of 2028 for an undisclosed fee from MK Dons.
Burns spent last season on loan at Tallaght Stadium and Stephen Bradley was keen to bring Burns back to Ireland.
The 22-year-old began his professional career at St Patrick's Athletic, going on to make 54 appearances before securing the move to Milton Keynes.
The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international played 22 times but was soon out of favour.
He joined the Hoops on loan in January 2024 and played 40 times, scoring five times, for the League of Ireland side, including appearances in their recent Europa League campaign.
Grimsby boss David Artell said: "We’re delighted that Darragh chose to come to us over other competition. He’ll provide strength and depth in the wide forward positions.
"We’ve been tracking him for some time and have been impressed. He’s technically proficient, particularly in the final third with excellent crossing, good delivery from both feet and he has an eye for goal, too."
Danny Grant, Ed McGinty and Matt Healy have signed with Shamrock Rovers for the new season, while Neil Farrugia, Markus Poom and Johhny Kenny have departed the club.
