Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler not ruling out Evan Ferguson January exit

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler is still not ruling out the possibility of Evan Ferguson leaving the club this month despite the departure of attacking midfielder Julio Enciso to Ipswich Town.

Enciso has gone on loan to the Tractor Boys for the rest of the campaign. Although that would appear to lighten Hurzeler's forward options, speculation is still rumbling that Republic of Ireland striker Ferguson could also head elsewhere in search of game time.

Several clubs are rumoured to be monitoring Ferguson's situation, including Marseille, who are currently helmed by former Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi.

Meanwhile Graham Potter - who handed Ferguson his Seagulls debut - is thought to be interested in bringing the 20-year-old to West Ham.

When asked on Thursday about the likelihood of Ferguson moving on in this window, Hurzeler said: "Let's see what happens. In the offensive line there's still some players not at the highest level, still some players suffering with small issues.

"Therefore we have to wait. Also Evan is not fit yet (he's recovering from an ankle injury) so we still have some days till the window is closed.

"Until then we have to figure out what is the situation at the moment, what do we need for the rest of the season and then also what the players want. Then it's about making the decision together."

Hurzeler also explained the decision to let Enciso join struggling Ipswich. The 21-year-old Paraguay midfielder has made 12 league appearances for Albion this season.

"Julio wants to play regularly, and that is not something we can guarantee with so many options in our attacking positions," Hurzeler added.

"Ipswich have offered Julio the possibility of more regular game time, and the move is the right one for all concerned. We will keep a close eye on his progress as the season continues, and we wish him well for his time with Ipswich."

Brighton captain Lewis Dunk and winger Matt O'Reilly are injury concerns ahead of Saturday's visit of Everton.

Centre-back Dunk is carrying a "small muscle problem", according to Hurzeler.

On former Celtic wideman O'Reilly, Hurzeler added: "It's a small knee issue.

"He had a hit in his knee and it's painful but it's just a time thing so, if he's able to overcome the pain and if he can go through this pain, we will see the next days."
