Shamrock Rovers and Chelsea have each been fined by UEFA over chants heard at their Conference League match last month.

The Hoops have been fined €10,000 for "transmitting a message that is not fit for a sports event" following chants about the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the match at Stamford Bridge on 19 December, as well as €8,000 for the throwing of objects.

Chelsea fans responded with an anti-IRA chant. The London club have also been fined €10,000 by UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB).

Rovers lost 5-1 but still finished 10th in the League Phase of the competition to earn a place in the knockout play-off round, where they will face Norwegian side Molde over two legs next month.

The first leg in Norway will take place on 13 February, with the return at Tallaght Stadium a week later.

In between, on Sunday, 16 February, Stephen Bradley's side will kick off their SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division campaign with a Dublin derby against Bohemians which will be held at the Aviva Stadium.

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed that Estonian midfielder Markus Poom, who scored the Rovers goal in the Stamford Bridge game, has departed upon the expiration of his extended loan deal.

The 25-year-old, son of former Premier League goalkeeper Mart Poom, was part of the Hoops squad that won the league in 2023.
