Republic of Ireland defender Caitlin Hayes has ended her four-year spell at Celtic and sealed a move to Women's Super League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

The English-born defender joins the Seagulls for an undisclosed fee.

"We're delighted to welcome Caitlin to the club. She's an experienced player who has competed at many levels in the game, including cup finals and the Champions League," said Brighton head coach Dario Vidosic.

"She's progressed well in her time in Scotland and we're looking forward to seeing her compete in the WSL with Brighton."

Hayes bid a fond farewell to Celtic as she confirmed her departure from Glasgow.

"It has been nothing short of one of the greatest honours of my life to wear the green and white," she said.

"My nine-year-old self would never have believed that her wildest dreams would become her reality. But I guess, after all, I was just a girl with a dream and a fan that got lucky."

She added: "I wish nothing but success for everyone involved with Celtic Football Club. Once a Celt, always a Celt."

Hayes arrived at Celtic in 2020 and went onto win one league title, two cups, featured in the group stages of the Champions League and earned individual accolades.

The 29-year-old has also firmly established herself at international level with Ireland since receiving clearance to represent the Girls in Green in 2023, going on to win 18 caps and scoring twice.

She will hope to maintain that trajectory under incoming new Ireland head coach Carla Ward, with the first game of the 2025 Women's UEFA Nations League campaign kicking off against Turkey at Tallaght Stadium on Friday, 21 February.
