Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov has joined Manchester City on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Ligue 1 club Lens.
It's understood the fee for the 20-year-old is worth €40m plus add-ons.
Khusanov is the first player from Uzbekistan to join a Premier League club, and will wear the number 45 shirt.
He said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City, a club that I have enjoyed watching for a long time.
"This squad is full of the best players in the world, and I can't wait to meet them and play alongside them.
"And of course Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest coaches ever and I am so excited to learn from him and improve my game even more.
"This is a very proud moment for me and my family to be joining a great club like Manchester City and I'm more than ready for this challenge."
Khusanov's deal keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2029.
He began his professional career in Belarus playing for Energetik-BGU before making the move to Ligue 1 in 2023, where he made 31 appearances for RC Lens.
Khusanov has been capped 18 times by Uzbekistan.
Republic of Ireland Under-21 defender Alex Murphy (above) has gone to Bolton Wanderers on loan from Newcastle United for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old former Galway United man, who was on the bench for Newcastle's recent FA Cup third-round win against Bromley, goes straight into Bolton's squad as they push for promotion in League One. They are currently ninth in the table.
"He’s a young player we have tracked for a long time, " said boss Ian Evatt.
"He’s been in and around Newcastle’s squad and been on the bench a lot.
"He’s an international footballer who will give us flexibility, who can play centre-back, wing-back or full-back with an eye on us having the option to potentially change shape in the future."
Meanwhile Aston Villa have rejected a bid from Premier League rivals West Ham for forward Jhon Duran.
West Ham first registered an interest in Duran last summer but failed to pursue initial advances for the Colombian striker and he signed a new deal with Villa until 2030 in October.
However, the Hammers have stepped up their efforts to bring the 12-goal forward to London and had a bid reported to be in the region of £57m (€67.5m) turned down by Villa on Monday.
The transfer speculation is an unwanted distraction for Villa ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash away to Monaco.
