Erling Haaland has signed a ten-year contract with Manchester City which will keep him at the club until 2034, the Premier League club announced.

Haaland's contract was set to expire in June 2027 but the 24-year-old, winner of the league's Golden Boot for most goals scored in the last two seasons, could be set to stay at the club until the age of 34.

The Norwegian, who was signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has netted 111 goals in 126 matches for City, winning the treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in his debut season under manager Pep Guardiola.

"I am super proud and happy, and I am looking forward to staying here for a long time," Haaland said in a statement.

"In the end, speaking with the people I spoke with, the hunger and the support that I have been getting for the last couple of years from the board, from the bosses and from Pep, it was an easy decision. I am delighted.

"Now I can fully focus on getting better because I am going to stay here for such a long time."

His manager Guardiola admitted he could scarcely believe the news that Haaland has signed a new contract of that length.

The City boss, who recently agreed his own two-year extension, thought he had misheard when told the details by director of football Txiki Begiristain.

Guardiola said at a press conference: "I said, 'Can you repeat?' And he said to me (10 years). I said, 'Sure?' and he said, 'Yes'. So, good news. That means a lot."

Guardiola says he was initially astounded when informed of the length of Haaland's new deal

He added: "It's proof of confidence and trust for the club, it's the trust for the club to Erling, because you never know what can happen in the next years.

"But the club knows perfectly how professional he is and his commitment in every single game and every single day to show his talent.

"Of course for him, in 10 years, you never know what's going to happen. It's a long, long time and always in the short careers, you have to say, 'OK, we'll see what happens'.

"He proved what he wanted and the trust was with the club."

Haaland broke records in his first season in England, netting 36 goals in his debut Premier League campaign and 52 in all competitions.

He scored 27 league goals last season as City won a fourth consecutive Premier League title, while he has netted 16 so far this season.

Meanwhile, City have reached a verbal agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt over the transfer of Omar Marmoush.

The Egypt forward, who can operate across the frontline, has scored 20 times in 26 appearances for the German club in all competitions this season.

Fifteen of those goals have come in the Bundesliga, where he is only one strike behind the league's top scorer, Harry Kane.

The 25-year-old, who has 35 international caps, has also provided nine league assists this term.

Marmoush joined Frankfurt on a free transfer from divisional rivals Wolfsburg in 2023, having begun his career at Wadi Degla in his homeland.

His imminent arrival at the Etihad Stadium will boost the attacking options of a City side who have won just three of their last 12 Premier League fixtures.

Haaland’s deal means he has the longest current contract of any player in the top five European leagues, according to Transfermarkt.

Excluding 'lifetime’ deals offered to Real Madrid duo Raul and Iker Casillas and Barcelona star Andres Iniesta, the next longest in football history with a defined end date was the 10-year deal awarded to Brazilian winger Denilson when he signed for Real Betis in 1998 for what was then a world record €31.5m.

Deals of 10 years-plus are more common in American sports, with Juan Soto signing a 15-year deal with the New York Mets last month.

It has been reported Haaland’s deal increases his basic wage to £500,000 a week and removes a release clause contained in the original contract.

Pep Guardiola's champions, who blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Brentford on Tuesday, sit sixth in the top flight - 12 points adrift of leaders Liverpool - ahead of travelling to Ipswich on Sunday.
