RTÉ Sport is set to lose the television rights to the League of Ireland, with Virgin Media in line to broadcast games from the Airtricity League Men's Premier Division in 2025.
It is understood RTÉ's offer included an increase in the number of games to be shown on RTÉ2 and the RTÉ Player from 17 to 20 for the upcoming season.
However on Tuesday evening the clubs voted in favour of Virgin Media's bid, which will see the broadcaster show 36 Premier Division matches, one per round.
That vote must be ratified by the FAI Board next week.
Virgin began broadcasting live League of Ireland matches in 2023 before increasing their offering, which avails of LOITV match feeds, to 14 games in 2024.
It is understood the FAI Cup rights deal is yet to be concluded.
The league kicks off next month, with 2024 champions Shelbourne looking to defend their title.
RTÉ has covered live League of Ireland matches for decades, with Friday night coverage fronted by Peter Collins and soccer correspondent Tony O'Donoghue.
A weekly highlights show was broadcast from 2008 to 2021 before being cancelled.
RTÉ Sport will broadcast the Republic of Ireland men's Nations League play-off against Bulgaria in March, ahead of the World Cup qualifying campaign, which begins in September.
