Sligo Rovers have become the latest side to raid relegated Dundalk with recent Republic of Ireland Under-21 call-up Jad Hakiki moving to The Showgrounds.

The 20-year-old joins the Bit O'Red on a two-year-deal.

The Dubliner spent the second half of the 2024 season at Oriel Park following a move from Shelbourne in the summer where game time had been limited.

Hakiki made 50 appearances between both the Lilywhites and Shels in his career so far.

Comfortable at number ten or out wide, Hakiki was also part of Jim Crawford's Irish squad which twice faced Sweden in Spain last month.

He could be seen as a potential replacement for Ellis Chapman who remains in high demand from clubs in Britain and at home after an outstanding first season in Sligo.

Hakiki makes it 15 players signed up for the Sligo squad for 2025.

The attacking midfielder said: "The manager rang me a while back to tell me he was interested and why Sligo Rovers would be a great choice for me.

"He gave some great insight into how he wants to do things and he spoke my language really. I had other options but my heart was always set on coming here once I spoke to the management team and got a good idea of their plans going forward.

"I've played against Rovers many times and I’ve always liked the way they play so I can’t wait to get into that system. The number ten would be my best position, I feel.

"I always want to go forward to create chances and score goals. I’d like to think the way I play can excite the supporters. I can’t wait to get going now and be part of a really competitive team, hunting silverware and a European spot."

Bit O' Red boss John Russell feels Hakiki could have an impressive season.

"Jad is a very exciting signing for us," his new boss Russell said.

"He is a player who really caught my eye last season and has bags of ability. He's able to carry the ball and beat players which is exactly the type of player we need. I want to sign players who will make the difference in the final third so Jad’s creativity will be a big asset for us.

"He comes to Sligo at a really good stage in his development.

"We’re really looking forward to working with him. I am sure the fans will enjoy watching him too."

Andy Boyle (Waterford), John Mountney (Bohemians) and Ryan O'Kane (Shelbourne) have already departed the Lilywhites with more expected to follow.

Meanwhile midfielder Barry Baggley (above, left, in action for Waterford FC) has joined St Patrick's Athletic from Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee.

The Northern Ireland U21 international, who has signed a long-term contract, began his career with Linfield and Glentoran before a move to Fleetwood Town in 2018.

The Belfast native became Fleetwood's youngest ever league player in MArch 2019, at the age of 17 years and 57 days, after coming on as a late sub in a defeat at Walsall.

A loan spell with National League side Altrincham followed in 2021 before Barry moved to the League of Ireland, spending two seasons on loan with Waterford FC.

He was part of 'The Blues' promotion via the play-offs in 2023, and was named in the SSE Airtricity First Division Team of the Season, before making 18 league appearances last season as Keith Long's side finished seventh on their return to the Premier Division.

Baggley told the St Patrick's Athletic website: "When I met Stephen Kenny, I thought straight away that it would be a perfect fit for me to come to St Pat's, I think the type of football that Stephen likes to play will suit me and I'm looking forward to meeting the lads tomorrow.

"St Pat's is a brilliant club to be at, things are going in the right direction, we want to compete and the crowd here is unbelievable too, it's always sold out and will be great to play in front of."
