Republic of Ireland attacker Michael Obafemi has joined Wayne Rooney's Plymouth Argyle on a loan deal from Burnley.

The 24-year-old will spend the campaign at the Clarets' Championship rivals, having spent the conclusion of last season at Millwall.

He'll hope to catch the eye of new Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrímsson ahead of September's UEFA Nations League clashes against England and Greece.

"We are thrilled that we have managed to secure the services of Michael," said Rooney.

"He was really keen to come and be a part of what we are building here at Argyle.

"He fits the profile of player I want as part of the squad and complements the style of play we are looking to implement."

Ilkay Gundogan has returned to Man City from Barcelona

Manchester City have completed a deal to re-sign Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona.

The German midfielder has signed an one-year contract to return to the club he left for the Catalan giants last summer.

The 33-year-old won 12 major trophies, including five Premier Leagues and the Champions League, in seven years during a hugely successful first spell at the Etihad Stadium.

"My seven years at Manchester City were a time of pure contentment for me, both on and off the pitch," Gundogan said upon his return.

"I grew as a person and a player, developed a special relationship with the City fans and enjoyed amazing success. It was an exceptional period in my life.

"To have the opportunity to return here means so much. Everyone knows the respect I have for Pep - he is the best manager in the world and working with him every day makes you a better player. You feel constantly challenged, which for any professional is exactly what you want. I cannot wait to work with him again."

Duncan Idehen in action for Yeovil

Derry City have boosted their ranks with the signings of Duncan Idehen and Sean Robertson.

Idehen, a 22-year-old London-born centre-half, was recently released by Bristol City. The towering left-footed defender made his debut for Grimbsy in League Two as an 18-year-old and moved to Bristol where he made a handful of appearances for the first team.

Despite signing a two-year deal with the Robins, Idehen spent most of his time on loan during his time there. He had spells on loan with Carlisle, Yeovil and Bath City prior to his contract expiring at Ashton Gate.

Robertson is a versatile wide player that was most recently with Forest Green Rovers. He started his career with Crystal Palace, playing for their Under-23s side before joining Forest Green.

He joined Forest Green after their promotion to League One and made 15 appearances in his first season, also spending time on loan at Crewe Alexandra.

The pair have received international clearance and will join Andre Wisdom as part of the squad for tonight's SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division clash against Waterford at the RSC.

Ivan Toney could be on the way out of Brentford

Ivan Toney's future at Brentford remains "up in the air", according to manager Thomas Frank.

The England striker was omitted from the squad for last weekend’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace because of transfer interest and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.

Frank declined to provide an update on negotiations with one week left in the transfer window and insists Toney could be involved in Sunday’s trip to Liverpool.

When asked if the 28-year-old will be in action at Anfield, Frank replied: "Who knows? Let’s see on Sunday what will happen.

"Ivan trained the whole week. Trained with good attitude in every aspect. He could be involved, he could not be involved.

"He could be here after the 30th and he could not be here. Basically everything is up in the air.

"I’ve said the whole time that if he’s here I’m very happy, if he’s not here then I’m happy on his behalf."

Manchester United have sold defender Will Fish to Cardiff for an initial £1million.

The fee could reach £3m with add-ons and it is understood a buyback clause and 30% sell-on fee has been included in the deal.

Fish, 21, has signed a four-year deal with the Championship club.

Kieran Trippier has spent two and a half seasons at Newcastle

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is desperate to keep Kieran Trippier at the club amid speculation that he wants to leave.

The 33-year-old England international, who was linked with a remarkable January switch to Bayern Munich, was left out of the starting line-up for last Saturday's Premier League opener against Southampton, with Tino Livramento taking his place in defence and midfielder Bruno Guimaraes wearing the captain’s armband.

Reports since have suggested Trippier, who turns 34 next month, wants to quit Tyneside after a two-and-a-half-year stay during which he has played a pivotal role in the club’s return to prominence.

However asked if he expected him to stay, head coach Howe said: "I hope so. I can never answer these questions with absolute certainty because it’s football and the transfer window is always unpredictable.

"But my wish is that he stays here and continues to play for us."

Joachim Andersen in action for Fulham in 2021

Fulham boss Marco Silva has welcome the signing of Joachim Andersen from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.

The Danish centre-back has returned to Craven Cottage, where he spent the 2020-21 season on loan.

Andersen's signing comes after Fulham lost defenders Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream on free transfers earlier in the window.

He is the second central defender to join the west Londoners today, following the signing of Jorge Cuenca from Villarreal.

Speaking before the deal was completed, ahead of Fulham’s Premier League clash with Leicester, Silva said: "It’s a great signing for us and a player who has been loved by this club for a long time.

"He wasn’t with me but I know he’ll bring something important for us – maturity and leadership.

Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew has completed his move to Leicester.

The deal is worth approximately £8million, including £3m in add-ons for the 32-year-old, whose agreement at Selhurst Park was set to expire at the end of this season.

The Ghana international has scored 23 goals in 212 appearances throughout his Palace career.

Brighton defender Valentin Barco has joined Sevilla on loan for the rest of the season.

The Argentina left-back has made seven appearances for Brighton since signing from Boca Juniors for £10m in January and is being sent to LaLiga to enhance his development.
