Chelsea have signed Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid on a seven-year contract, 15 months after he last played for the club on loan.

The 24-year-old Portugal forward joins for a reported £36million in a deal that helped facilitate Conor Gallagher's move in the opposite direction, which was also confirmed on Wednesday.

Felix made 20 appearances in all competitions during a six-month spell with the London outfit in the second half of the 2022-23 season, scoring four times in what was generally considered to be an underwhelming spell for both the player and the club.

He spent last term on loan at Barcelona, scoring 10 times in 44 games for the Catalan side.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is confident Felix can make a big impact back at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca told a press conference: "He is a good player, a talent. The club already knows him from two years ago. He can play different positions with us, inside, as a nine, outside."

The Blues had looked set to sign Atletico striker Samu Omorodion until contract negotiations stalled and the move fell through earlier this month.

That had the knock-on effect of derailing Gallagher's move to the Spanish capital, but after a deal was struck for Felix to return to Stamford Bridge, the Blues academy graduate was able to end his limbo and depart having fallen out of favour at the club.

Gallagher's future had been the subject of speculation for some time as he entered the final year of his contract and with it unclear how he fitted into new manager Enzo Maresca's plans.

A statement from Atletico read: "Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of Conor Gallagher, who has signed for the club until 2029."

Fulham have agreed a deal to sign Denmark defender Joachim Andesren from Crystal Palace.

A fee of £27million is understood to have been agreed for the centre-back, who previously had a loan spell at Craven Cottage during the 2020-21 season.

Andersen, 28, joined Palace on a permanent deal from Lyon in the summer of 2021 and made more than 100 appearances, starting in Palace's opening Premier League game at Brentford.

With Andersen's imminent departure ahead of the end of the transfer window, Palace have been linked with a move for Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix, who would link up again with current Eagles boss Oliver Glasner.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez (above) has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The contract extension will see Martinez, 31, extend his stay with Unai Emery's side until 2029.

Following a string of loan deals, Martinez joined Villa on a permanent contract from Arsenal in September 2020, eight years after he made his debut for the Gunners.

Martinez has gone on to play more than 150 times for Villa and won the World Cup for Argentina in 2022, as well as the Copa America on two occasions.

Southampton forward Sekou Mara has completed a permanent move to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg following a two-year spell at St Mary's Stadium.

Villarreal have signed Brazilian goalkeeper Luiz Junior from Portuguese club Famalicao on a six-year deal, the LaLiga side announced.

The clubs did not disclose the transfer fee but Spanish media reported that Villarreal paid around €12million for the 23-year-old.

"At an impressive 1.93 metres, he is quick between the posts, he is able to dominate aerial duels and has excellent reflexes - all of which make him a very talented goalkeeper with a big future," Villarreal said in a statement.
