Portsmouth Women have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland international Erin McLaughlin from Women's Premier Division champions Peamount United.

The Donegal native has signed a one-year contract at the English south coast club, with the option of an a further 12 months.

McLaughlin joined Peamount ahead of the 2022 season, having previously represented NIFL Premiership side Sion Swifts.

The 21-year-old helped the Peas to the title in 2023 and has been included in a number of recent Ireland squads.

Portsmouth will be operating in the second-tier Women's Championship, having just been promoted from the FA National League South.

Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland defeder Jake O'Brien looks to be on the verge of a move to Everton, after his breakthrough season with Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.

The Corkman made over 30 appearances for the French side and scored five goals in all competitions as they finished sixth in the league and reached the cup final.

It is understood that Everton have agreed a €24m fee for the centre-back and he is due to undergo a medical with the Merseyside club.
