Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott has made a swift return to the Eredivisie after Dutch top flight side AZ Alkmaar confirmed that they have signed the Dubliner from Tottenham Hotspur.

Reports on Friday had suggested that AZ and Spurs had agreed a deal worth around €8m.

Parrott impressed in the Netherlands last season, scoring 17 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions for Rotterdam club Excelsior.

Two hat-tricks in the promotion/relegation series weren't enough to keep his loan side in the top flight but Parrott has another chance to star in the division next season, as he makes the move to a side that finished fourth in the table.

Alkmaar will be competing in the Europa League group stage, as will Tottenham, who Parrott departs after a seven-year spell.

All of his four senior appearances for the north London club came under the management of Jose Mourinho but the ex-Belvedere youngster failed to make a long-term breakthrough.

Parrott spent time on loan at Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons and Preston North End with varying degrees of success, before enjoying that fruitful spell at Excelsior during the 2023-24 campaign.
