Shelbourne have signed League of Ireland veterans Ali Coote and Sam Bone, from Detroit City and Maidstone United respectively.

Former Bohemians and Waterford midfielder Coote has joined the League of Ireland Premier Division leaders, subject to international clearance.

The 26-year-old will arrive at Tolka Park when the transfer window opens on 1 July.

An attack minded left-sided midfielder, Coote has made nine appearances (eight starts) for USL Championship side Detroit this season in the tier below MLS.

The Scottish native played a key role in Bohs' 2021 European run, playing six times as they defeated Stjarnan and F91 Dudelange in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Coote scored twice against PAOK Thessaloniki in the third qualifying round, finishing the 2021 season with 42 appearances and seven goals.

In the 2022 season, Coote made 32 appearances and the following season played 30 times in the League of Ireland, scoring six goals.

Coote has made 109 appearances in total during his time in the League of Ireland with Bohs and Waterford, scoring 15 goals and registering 18 assists. He also played 11 times in the FAI Cup, helping Bohs to reach finals in 2021 and 2023.

Coote’s career began at Dundee United’s academy, where he made his senior debut in 2015 before spending three years at Brentford B. He joined Waterford in 2020 before moving to Dalymount, where he spent three seasons.

He said: "Delighted to be joining Shelbourne, I’ve spoken to a few of the boys and they love it here. Damien (Duff) and his staff have proved to be top level over the past few seasons and that’s an environment I’m excited to be a part of."

Shelbourne manager Duff said: "As promised, we have moved on very quickly and will continue to do more business. Ali is a wonderful signing and a very dangerous player in the league with a lot of x-factor.

"Ireland is his home from home and he belongs here. He is a player that will excite the fans and influence our games. And most importantly, he will buy into our culture, as it is what we are built on."

Shels have also completed the signing of 26-year-old defender Bone, who previously played for Shamrock Rovers, Waterford, St Patrick's Athletic and Dundalk in a six-year stint in the League of Ireland.

Bone won the FAI Cup with the Saints in 2021. He moved to Maidstone in the fifth-tier National League South in 2023.

He said: "I'm so excited to join the club. The chance to work with the gaffer was a huge opportunity that I’m really excited for having worked with him when I was younger. I obviously played with Joey O’Brien and David McAllister.

"I’ve stayed watching the LOI every Friday while I’ve been in England and I love the energy and where this club is going. I’ve played with a number of lads in the team and some I’m really close with. I saw the video of the fan on the pitch with the lads a while back and it was so powerful.

"I’ve played a number of times at Shels and the place has always been electric. I can’t wait to get going and I will give my everything to hopefully play a role in being successful."

Duff said: "We are all delighted that Sam has agreed to come back to his adopted country, like Ali. He had many offers here, but agreed to come to Shelbourne FC very quickly which I love. He has tremendous technical ability and can play a host of positions to a very high level. We are all very excited to see Sam represent this Dublin institution."
