Meath man Luke McNally scored a late winner as Stoke boosted their Championship survival hopes with a 2-1 victory over play-off hopefuls Preston at Deepdale.

Andrew Hughes was unfortunate to put into his own goal after 64 minutes to give Steven Schumacher's Potters the lead.

Preston substitute Milutin Osmajic's clever finish – three minutes later – levelled matters before McNally’s 87th-minute winner clinched a surprise victory in Lancashire to take them three points clear of the relegation zone.

Callum O'Dowda scored a dramatic 100th-minute winner as Cardiff completed a remarkable 2-1 win over Ipswich.

Kieffer Moore seemed to have returned to haunt his former club 11 minutes from time and put Ipswich on the brink of collecting three precious points in the Welsh capital.

But Ryan Wintle punished slack marking in the fifth minute of stoppage time as Ipswich failed to deal with Rubin Colwill’s cross and O’Dowda’s knockdown.

But that was not the end of the drama as five minutes later, and with virtually the last kick of the match, Perry Ng hooked the ball towards the far post at a chaotic corner and Republic of Ireland's O’Dowda volleyed home.

The defeat leaves Ipswich a point behind Leeds in third, who had moved in to second spot after Friday’s win at Sheffield Wednesday and possess superior goal difference than the Tractor Boys.

Sammie Szmodics, who was called up to the Ireland squad during Stephen Kenny's reign but wasn't capped, scored his 27th goal of the season but Blackburn were still held by Plymouth.

Despite his early strike, the away side earned a 1-1 draw with Morgan Whittaker on target after Kyle McFadzean had been sent off early in the second half for the hosts at Ewood Park.

Leicester extended their lead at the top to three points following a 2-2 draw at Hull.

Fabio Carvalho saw his seventh-minute penalty saved by Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen before opening the scoring nine minutes later.

Jamie Vardy levelled from the spot just past the half-hour mark and added his second moments after Anass Zaroury had put Hull back in front on the hour.

Southampton moved to within five points of Ipswich, with a game in hand, after beating Sunderland 4-2 at St Mary’s.

Stuart Armstrong put the Saints in front after nine minutes before Adam Armstrong doubled their advantage from the spot eight minutes before half-time.

Romaine Mundle and Jobe Bellingham drew Sunderland level, but substitute Joe Rothwell’s quickfire brace condemned the Black Cats to a sixth successive loss.

Norwich moved above Hull into sixth place on goal difference after thrashing bottom-of-the-table Rotherham 5-0 at Carrow Road.

Gabriel Sara, Jacob Sorensen and Borja Sainz scored inside 32 minutes before Josh Sargent added a fourth on the stroke of half-time, with Sara rounding off the scoring two minutes into the second half.

Coventry remain a point behind Norwich after Haji Wright’s brace cancelled out Ryan Porteous’ opener in a 2-1 win at Watford.

Japhet Tanganga netted a 90th-minute winner as Millwall boosted their survival chances with a 1-0 victory over Birmingham.

Middlesbrough beat relegation-threatened QPR 2-0 at Loftus Road, Emmanuel Latte Lath and Marcus Forss with the goals.
