Denise O'Sullivan has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's international friendlies against Italy and Wales due to injury with Peamount United teenager Jess Fitzgerald getting a first senior call-up.

North Carolina Courage's O'Sullivan bruised her knee in a pre-season game against Orlando Pride.

Tyler Toland will also miss the fixture with a minor knee injury.

The 17-year-old Lucan native Fitzgerald has promoted from Ireland Under-19 side. Her Peas team-mate Erin McLaughlin also comes back into the fold.

Louise Quinn has been passed fit after a scan on a shoulder injury last week.

The squad will assemble in Florence on Monday and train in Viola Park – the home base for ACF Fiorentina – ahead of the game against Italy on Friday.

They will return to Dublin after the fixture to train before taking on Wales on Friday, 27 February in Tallaght Stadium.

The two games will serve as part of the preparation for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2025 qualifiers, which kick off in April following the draw on 5 March.
