Copenhagen's Kevin Diks celebrates at the full-time whistle after the 1-0 victory over Galatasaray

Surprise package Copenhagen repeated their achievement from 12 years ago by reaching the last 16 of the Champions League with a 1-0 victory over Galatasaray.

Lukas Lerager had an eventful night as he scored the only goal in the 58th minute before being sent off late on for a second bookable offence.

It means he will be suspended when Copenhagen, who became the first Danish side to reach the last 16 in 2010-11 after progressing from a group containing Barcelona, Rubin Kazan and Panathinaikos, return in the competition in the new year.

The Danes' victory rendered Manchester United's result at home to Group A winners Bayern Munich academic but the 1-0 defeat courtesy of Kingsley Coman's 70th-minute goal ensured the Premier League side finished bottom and exited European competition this season, with Galatasaray heading to the Europa League.

Napoli secured second place in Group C with a 2-0 win at home to Braga after Serdar Saatchi's ninth-minute own goal was added to by Victor Osimhen before half-time.

Real Madrid, already confirmed as group winners, required an 89th-minute Dani Ceballos winner to beat Union Berlin 3-2 to make it six successive wins.

Luka Modric's missed penalty at the end of the first half was punished by Kevin Volland scoring in added time but two goals from Joselu turned things around, only for Alex Kral to equalise five minutes from time.

Real Sociedad topped Group D after a goalless draw against Inter, the only team who could deny them first place.

Arthur Cabral's added-time winner in the 3-2 victory over Red Bull Salzburg saw Benfica sneak into third place on head-to-head.

Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven, the top two already qualified from Group A, drew 1-1.

Lens secured third spot with a 2-1 win at home to Sevilla, meaning the Europa League winners will not even be able to drop down to defend their trophy.
