Cork's Jake O’Brien found the net twice for Lyon but it wasn’t enough as they lost 3-2 to 10-man Lens in Ligue 1.
The defender, who signed for the French side in August, put the basement club into the lead in the 14th minute before Wesley Saïd and Przemyslaw Frankowski, from the penalty spot, put Lens ahead as they tried to recover from their Champions League mauling by Arsenal.
O’Brien drew Lyon level again in the 72nd minute but Lyon, who lost Florian Sotoca to a red card in the final moments, found a winner as Frankowski scored his second.
Elsewehere, Florent Mollet's goal was the difference for Nantes to beat Nice 1-0.

Real Madrid returned to the top of the La Liga table with a 2-0 win against struggling Granada.
