The Girls in Green toiled on a soaked pitch at Stadiumi Loro Borici as a violent thunderstorm led to an incessant downpour.
Pools of water began to gather all around the field as the first half wore on, and though Armenia referee Araksya Saribekyan ploughed on to complete the opening period, a decision was made at half-time to suspend the game.
After extensive work on the pitch for well over an hour, the surface was deemed to have improved enough for the action to resume.
