Atletico Madrid survived a scare at Osasuna as they continued their pursuit of the early La Liga pacesetters with a chaotic 2-0 victory.
Atleti, who were 3-1 winners against city rivals Real Madrid last weekend, took the lead through Antoine Griezmann's 20th-minute opener from a tight angle.
Tempers flared in the second half when David Garcia had a goal ruled out for a foul on Atleti midfielder Axel Witsel, which led to the dismissal of Osasuna boss Jagoba Arrasate in the 78th minute.
Rodrigo Riquelme calmly slotted home three minutes later to double Diego Simeone's side's advantage before a flashpoint between Alvaro Morata and Chimy Avila saw both teams reduced to 10 men.
The two clashed in the 84th minute, with Morata getting booked for an aggressive shoulder charge on the Argentinian as the ball went out of play. From the resultant throw-in, Morata held the ball by the corner flag where he caught Iker Munoz with an elbow and as both players fell to the ground, Avila stamped on the striker's leg.
Avila's horror tackle resulted in a straight red card, while Morata was shown a second yellow. Atleti held on to sit six points behind surprise leaders Girona with a game in hand.
Celta Vigo climbed out of the relegation zone, albeit on goals scored, following a 1-1 draw against Alaves.
Rafa Marin's own goal put Celta ahead in the 35th minute, but the home side were reduced to 10 men when midfielder Luca de la Torre was sent off for a second bookable offence. It proved costly for Rafa Benitez's side as Samu equalised for Alaves with 17 minutes left.
Granada remain in the bottom three despite a 1-1 draw at home to Real Betis.
Betis winger Assane Diao looked to have inflicted another defeat on Granada, who had lost five of their opening six league matches, but former Reading striker Lucas Boye earned a point for the hosts.
In Serie A, Roma's poor start to the season continued with a heavy 4-1 defeat at Genoa, who climbed up to 11th in the table.
Jose Mourinho's side have claimed just one win in their opening six league matches - a 7-0 drubbing of Empoli - and fell behind to Albert Gudmundsson's fifth-minute goal before Bryan Cristante headed home Leonardo Spinazzola's cross to level for Roma.
A brilliant finish from Italy international Mateo Retegui, a header from Morten Thorsby and a Junior Messias strike sealed the win for Genoa to leave Giallorossi only two points above the relegation zone.
Frosinone extended their unbeaten run to five matches following their 1-1 draw at home to Fiorentina.
The reigning Serie B champions fell behind to Nicolas Gonzalez's powerful header in the 19th minute, however, Frosinone earned a share of the spoils thanks to Matias Soule's header with 20 minutes remaining.
Monza were held to a goalless draw at home to Bologna, who had Alexis Saelemaekers sent off for two instances of dissent to referee Ivano Pezzuto in quick succession late on.
