St Patrick's Athletic defender Sam Curtis will miss his side's upcoming FAI Cup semi-final away at Cork City after an appeal against his red card against Drogheda United on Monday night was rejected.
Curtis was sent off in injury time of the 2-1 defeat for what was perceived as a dangerous challenge on Drogheda's Ryan Brennan.
The teenager was the second Saints player to receive his marching orders in the game after Jake Mulraney was sent off for a second yellow card on 66 minutes.
"An independent Appeal Committee of the FAI has rejected St Patrick's Athletic FC’s appeal for wrongful dismissal following Sam Curtis' red card for serious foul play in St Patrick’s Athletic FC’s SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division fixture versus Drogheda United FC on 25 September 2023," said the League of Ireland in a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon.
"In accordance with the FAI Disciplinary Regulations, Sam Curtis will serve a two-match suspension."
Both matches of Curtis' suspension will be served as Pat's play against Premier Division strugglers Cork City, first in a league outing on 29 September, before the cup semi-final on 8 October (live on RTÉ One).
