Tottenham's Sergio Reguilon is the frontrunner to fill Manchester United’s need for a left-back before the transfer deadline, according to reports.
Erik ten Hag’s side have gone from too many options in that area to being left light after Luke Shaw’s muscle injury compounded the absence of Tyrell Malacia and recent exits.
Alex Telles last month made a permanent switch to Al-Nassr and Brandon Williams’ loan move to Ipswich was announced the day before Shaw’s extended absence became public.
United have scoured the market for a left-back since then, with Reguilon looking the most likely option to join on loan as Friday’s deadline looms.
The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Old Trafford three years ago and spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid.
Spurs are understood to have given Reguilon permission to travel to Manchester for a medical, with an agreement close. Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella was another option they looked at.
Celtic have signed defender Nat Phillips on loan from Liverpool until January.
The 26-year-old graduated from the the Reds' academy and has gone on to make 29 appearances for their first team. Phillips has also spent time on loan with Bournemouth and Stuttgart.
As his move to the Scottish champions was announced on Thursday, he said: "When I heard about the interest it was one that got me excited.
"There were a few other options that didn’t quite make me feel the same as this one did, so I was really keen to get it over the line and I’m delighted to be here now."
Chelsea's Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku has joined Roma on a season-long loan.
The loan fee was not disclosed but Italian media valued the deal at €8 million, including bonuses.
The 30-year-old will be reunited with Roma manager Jose Mourinho, who worked with him at Chelsea and Manchester United.

"The welcome I've received from this club and its fans has excited me and given me even more motivation to give my all for my new team," Lukaku said.
"I recently got the opportunity to speak with the owners, and I was impressed by their ambition. Now we must work, be humble, and grow game by game. For my part, I can't wait to be available to my team mates both on and off the pitch."
Lukaku, who had a successful loan spell at Inter Milan last season, has reportedly agreed to a large wage cut.
Roma have one point from their first two Serie A matches this season and host AC Milan on Friday.

Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes has been given permission to travel to Manchester City for a medical after Wolves agreed a club-record £53million deal.
After overcoming some minor sticking points in final negotiations over an initial £47.3m deal late on Wednesday night, both clubs were able to come to an agreement which involved a bigger fee.
It is understood there are no add-ons included but there is a 10% sell on fee on any profit City make on the 25-year-old.
Nunes became Wolves' record signing when he joined from Sporting Lisbon for an initial £38m last summer on a five-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.
He made 34 appearances last term, scoring one goal and proving one assist.
However, on learning of City’s interest Nunes absented himself from training in an attempt to force through a move.
In a separate deal, City’s 21-year-old midfielder Tommy Doyle is set to undergo a medical for a season-long loan at Molineux, with Wolves having a £4.2m option to buy and City retaining a 50% sell-on fee on any profit made on the player.
The England Under-21 international is the grandson of Manchester City greats Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe and impressed on loan at Sheffield United last season, scoring four goals and providing seven assists in 38 appearances as he helped the Blades earn promotion to the Premier League.
