The Sport Direct Women's FAI Cup kicked off with Shamrock Rovers enjoying an 8-0 victory over Killester Donnycarney FC at Tallaght Stadium, with DLR Waves, Peamount, and Cork City also winning.

The Hoops were facing a team that got to the semi-finals of the FAI Amateur Women's Cup this year and narrowly lost to eventual runners up Bonagee United.

Collie O'Neill left nothing to chance as he played a near full strength team that included Amanda Budden, Jessica Gargan, and Alannah McEvoy.

Rovers' World Cup star Abbie Larkin netting four goals for her side.

Jamie Thompson, Lia O’Leary, Joy Ralph, and Stephanie Zambre also got on the scoresheet.

Peamount United needed extra-time to beat Treaty United 3-2 at the Markets Field after the home side twice took the lead.

The Shannonsiders opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Aoibhe Fleming, with the Shamrock Rovers loanee hitting the back of the net from outside the area.

Erin McLaughlin equalised shortly after and Aoife Cronin restored her side’s advantage by picking off a stray pass at the end of the first half.

Kate Mooney tied things up once the game resumed, and McLaughlin hit the winner in extra-time.

A last minute equaliser at the Belfield Bowl meant that DLR Waves and Wexford Youths finished as a 3-3 draw and penalties would decide who would progress to the second round.

The shoot-out finished 4-3 in favour of the home side, with Eve Badana saving the decisive spot kick in sudden death.

Everything started with Michelle Doonan’s goal in the 21st minute and Rianna Jarrett immediately equalised for her side.

Ciara Rossiter turned in a cross from Abbie Brophy to put Wexford into the lead at half-time and Cliodhna Donnelly hit back for DLR Waves with just six minutes left to play.

Jarret got her second goal of the tie in extra-time, and Isobel Finnegan forced a penalty shoot-out at the death.

DLR held their nerve in the pouring rain to qualify for the next round for the third consecutive season.

Cork City started their campaign with a 5-0 victory over FAI Women's Amateur Cup champions Terenure Rangers FC at Richmond Park.

Fiana Bradley scored once in each half, and that brought the teenager’s total for the season up to four. Heidi O’Sullivan and Eva Mangan also hit the back of the net, with an own-goal rounding out the win for Danny Murphy and his players in Dublin.

It was a flawless performance for one of the youngest teams in the league, a group that made their name known nationally by reaching the semi-finals of the Avenir Sports Women's All-Island Cup earlier this year.
