There were a number of Irishmen on the goal trail as the early stages of the Championship season kicked on with high-scoring games the order of the day.

Aaron Connolly found the net for Hull, Will Keane was on the mark for Preston North End while Sinclair Armstrong also goaled for QPR, who had a big away win at Cardiff.

Connolly scored the fourth having come off the bench in Hull's impressive 4-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday, rounding off the scoring in the 85th minute after Ozan Tufan had grabbed a hat-trick.

Keane opened the scoring at Deepdale in the 25th minute to help Preston to a 2-1 win at home to Sunderland while Armstrong was also first man on the scoresheet in the game at Cardiff City Stadium.

Sammie Szmodics grabbed a brace of goals in the final 20 minutes to rescue a point for Blackburn Rovers at Rotherham.

Elsewhere, Ipswich and Leicester are the only sides remaining with a 100% record after the opening two weekends of the season. Leicester held off Huddersfield 1-0 away from home while Ipswich had a 2-0 win against Stoke at Portman Road.

At St Andrews, Birmingham City beat Leeds United 1-0 to leave the Elland Road club with just one point from two games while West Brom saw off Swansea by the odd goal in five in an end-to-end affair at The Hawthorns.

Southampton and Norwich incredibly shared eight goals evenly at St Mary's Stadium but there were no goals at Vicarage Road where Watford and Plymouth drew 0-0.

Last but not least, the Sky Blues, Coventry City, had an eye-catching 3-0 win at home to Middlesbrough where Meath's Darragh Lenihan had the misfortune of putting through his own net in the 90th minute.

In League One, Danny Mandroiu finished off a sweeping move to complete Lincoln City's 3-0 home win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Elsewhere in the third tier, Conor Hourihane set up the opener for international teammate James Collins and then added the second himself as Derby County won 3-0 away to Burton Albion.
