Three Premier Division sides are aiming to qualify for the second round of the Europa Conference League tonight.

St Patrick's Athletic face the biggest challenge, trailing by a goal after a flat display in Luxembourg against Diddeleng.

Dundalk and Derry City recorded scoreless draws in Gibraltar and Faroe Islands.

St Patrick's Athletic (1) v FC Diddeleng 91 (2), Richmond Park, 7.45pm

Jon Daly feels St Pat’s are better equipped to tackle FC Diddeleng after having limited knowledge of their opponent going into the first leg.

With a new manager and changes to the squad, Diddeleng were something of an unknown proposition given they had not played a competitive game under their new manager.

Pat's were far from their best on the night and in truth could have been three or four goals down.

Mark Doyle scored a fortuitous goal in the dying seconds which saw the home players fall to the ground in devastation, knowing they went from having the tie largely under control to a totally different scenario going to Dublin 8.

Manager Jon Daly said: "It's a massive goal for us. We were obviously a bit disappointed with the performance but the result, being a goal down at half-time coming to our own venue isn't the end of the world. We do believe we can score goals. We'll put that performance to bed and make sure we're focused. We know what they're like now. We know what they're about."

Pat’s are restricted by the lack of seating in their home venue.

A record average of over 4,000 this season has been a remarkable story for the growth in interest in League of Ireland football in Dublin.

But tonight’s game will see just 2,500 present due to UEFA regulations.

"We're excited, looking forward to it. We're sure it's going to be a difficult game but we're confident. Our home record is good so we're hoping to continue that on Thursday

I always feel confident going into games that we can score goals. It's just now about realising we have to tighten up at the back and make sure we're not exposed or give the ball away cheaply and leave ourselves open. We have some fantastic attacking players who can cause problems.

"Looking back at the game they realised that too, the way they look and marked certain players really closely over the 90 minutes. It's up to us to free those players from that man-marking and get them in area which can hurt them and get the goals we need."

Axel Sjöberg, Kian Leavy and captain Joe Redmond are out injured but could return soon

Tom Grivosti is out long-term. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

Derry City (0)v HB Torshavn (0), Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium, 7.45pm

Derry City drew 0-0 in the Faroe Islands

Derry City have history on their mind as HB Torshavn visit the Brandywell this evening as they look to end a run of European misery.

Ties with FC Midtjylland, Dinamo Minsk, Riteriai and Riga FC have ended in disappointment in the last decade with no good Brandywell memories made.

Manager Ruaidhri Higgins saw his players manufacture a level par performance last week which gives a platform to go through tonight.

It’s not going to be easy for City with Torshavn creating dangerous situations in the Faroe Islands.

Higgins said: "If you look at their home form in European competition in the last few years you'll see they've had some very good victories.

"We knew they were a good side and they didn't disappoint us.

"To be fair, they started the game better than we did. They're very good technically but I thought we improved as the game went on and we were the better team over the 90 minutes."

Derry have no fresh injury concerns. Adam O'Reilly remains sidelined due to suspension.

Higgins wants a partisan home support to help his side on the way.

"It's now vital for us to be at it right from the start on Thursday night and to get a packed Brandywell behind us.

"It's something to get really excited about - playing in front of our own supporters on a European night here.

"The club hasn't gone through a round in Europe since 2014 and that's too long.

"Hopefully we'll have every set of lungs behind us and let's see if we can get this one over the line."

Dundalk FC (0) v Bruno's Magpies (0), Oriel Park, 7.45pm

Dundalk fans will be back from Gibraltar to cheer on their side in the second leg

Dundalk will be confident of progressing to the second round after overcoming the high temperature of Gibraltar.

The Lilywhites were the better side over the 90 minutes but had to withstand some scares.

Nevertheless a clean sheet was a positive outcome.

It'll be a first European match with a packed Oriel Park since 2019.

Manager Stephen O'Donnell said his players were determined to finish the job and book their place in the second qualifying round against Icelandic side KA Akureyri or Welsh outfit Connah’s Quay Nomads.

"Oriel Park has been starved of European football since 2019 so there should be a really good atmosphere and we’re really looking forward to it," he said.

"It’s all to play for and the tie has to be won on the night so it’s a night we really want to savour.

"It’s a huge week for the club. After Thursday, we have an FAI Cup tie against Shamrock Rovers at Oriel Park on Sunday; two huge games in the space of four days, but our full focus is on the Magpies.

"We want to be on a plane to Iceland or Wales next week for the second round. As a player, you want to be churning out games in Europe and travelling around Europe every second week. It makes you feel like a proper footballer.

"We’ll approach Thursday night in the right way and, hopefully, we get that little bit of luck and play to our ability which will give us a great chance of getting through."
