Ashley Young has joined Everton on a one-year deal.

The 38-year-old winger turned full-back becomes the Toffees' first summer signing, joining on a free transfer after his contract expired at Aston Villa.

Young has signed a one-year deal at Goodison Park to work under manager Sean Dyche, who was his captain when first breaking through at Watford.

"The manager was important in me signing," the former England international and Manchester United captain said.

"I know him and know what his passion and desire is like. His honesty, will to work hard and his hunger for the game is second to none.

"I know things haven’t gone too well for Everton in the past couple of seasons but the manager’s ambition, speaking to him and hearing what he wants to do to change the club around, was a key factor in my decision.

"The other is the size of Everton. It’s a massive club and the fanbase is one of the best.

"Having them behind me is a fantastic opportunity. I’m delighted to get the opportunity to be here and I just want to get started now."

Young won Serie A with Inter Milan before returning to Villa for a second spell in 2021 and Dyche says Everton are getting "a top-class professional".

"I’ve known Ashley for many years, having been his captain when he first broke through at Watford, and his qualities both on and off the pitch will prove valuable," he said.

"His impressive statistics from last season, which were among some of the best in Europe, highlight what he can bring to Everton."

Danny Grant is back at Bohs

Bohemians have announced the return of Danny Grant to Dalymount Park from Huddersfield Town.

Grant, 23, came through the Bohs U19s, breaking into the first team in 2018 where he quickly established himself as a regular and a firm fans' favourite.

The winger’s form in 2019 helped Bohs qualify for European football for the first time in seven years while he also won the first of his three Ireland U21 caps.

His standout season came in 2020 when he helped Bohs to a second-place finish, winning the PFA Ireland Young Player of the Year, the Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for August, and being named in the PFA Ireland Team of the Year in the process.

That form saw him earn a move to English Championship side Huddersfield Town from whom he rejoins after spending last season on loan with League Two side Harrowgate.

Manager Declan Devine said: "I am over the moon. I have been in constant contact with Danny for several months, have been over to see him in England, and I was always of the opinion that if he became available that I wanted to bring him back to the club.

"He has the DNA of the club running through him from his past stint here, which was a very successful period for him.

"He is at an age profile too where he really fits into this group. He has experience of playing in the league and of playing in England. I am delighted he wants to be part of the club again. He adds a dynamic and a quality to what we are trying to grow here."

Kyle Robinson

Drogheda United have announced the signing of their former academy forward Kyle Robinson from Shelbourne.

Robinson lined out for the Drogs' U17 and U19 sides in 2018 and 2019. He then made the move to St. Patrick's Athletic, where he won National League titles at both U17 and U19 level.

Robinson signed his first professional contract with the Saints in January 2021 before moving to Wexford FC on loan, scoring nine goals for the First Division side in 2021.

The now 20-year-old returned to St. Patrick’s Athletic in 2022, featuring for the Saints U19 side and first team, scoring in a 4-0 win against Drogheda on his league debut for St. Patrick’s Athletic.

Robinson made the move to Shelbourne ahead of the 2023 season, making his first league start in the 1-1 draw with Drogheda in May, and has scored three times in the Leinster Senior Cup this season, in games against Dundalk and Bohemians.

"It’s a place that I’ve kept very close to my heart since being here at a young age," he said.

"I’m delighted to be back at the club and hopefully I can help bring success, and joy to the fans, and for myself, goals and playing time.

Manager Kevin Doherty said: "I’m delighted to get Kyle signed. Obviously we’ve been looking for a centre forward and he fits the bill well. I’ve known him a few years, he was here before when I was here with Tim."

Rodrigo scored 28 goals for Leeds

Leeds have announced that former club record signing Rodrigo has joined Qatari side Al-Rayyan.

United splashed out £27m when they signed the Spain forward from Valencia on a four-year deal in 2020 following their return to the Premier League.

The 32-year-old went on to make 97 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 28 goals.

A statement on the Leeds website said: "We thank Rodrigo for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future."

Rodrigo's departure to the Qatar Stars League comes as relegated Leeds prepare for next season in the Sky Bet Championship under new manager Daniel Farke.

The summer transfer window has already seen defenders Diego Llorente and Robin Koch and midfielder Brenden Aaronson leave United on season-long loans, joining Roma, Eintracht Frankfurt and Union Berlin respectively.

Viktor Gyokeres (L)

Sweden forward Viktor Gyokeres has completed his move from Coventry to Sporting Lisbon.

City did not disclose the fee received for the 25-year-old, but said it was a club record. A percentage of the fee will be due to his former club Brighton.

Reports have suggested Sporting will pay in the region of £20million for Gyokeres, with Coventry's previous record the £13million received when Robbie Keane joined Inter Milan in 2000.

Gyokeres scored 23 goals in 50 appearances last term to help Coventry to the Championship play-off final, where they lost to Luton on penalties.

Gyokeres, capped 14 times by Sweden, joined Coventry from Brighton on loan in January 2021 before making the move permanent in that summer, signing a three-year contract. In all, he scored 43 goals in 116 appearances for the Sky Blues.
