St Patrick's Athletic have announced the permanent signing of Kian Leavy with Shelbourne expressing their surprise at his departure.

Leavy made 11 appearances for the Reds since joining from Reading on loan before the start of the 2023 season, scoring once.

The midfielder's last appearance was the 2-2 draw with Shamrock Rovers back in April.

Leavy has been sidelined with an injury since then.

Following his release from Reading back in May, Leavy was offered a deal to remain at Tolka Park.

However he has opted to sign for St Pat's.

Head coach Damien Duff said: "Kian Leavy has surprisingly turned down a contract with us and has left the club.

"I wish him all the best with his recovery from injury."

The Saints have also added Alex Nolan from UCD to their ranks.

The 20-year-old winger has played for both Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne at academy level and made 22 Premier Division appearances so far this season, impressing for the struggling Students.

Derry City have boosted their attacking options again with Scottish striker Danny Mullen moving to the Brandywell on a long-term deal.

Mullen began his career at Livingston before spells at St Mirren, Dundee and Partick Thistle and City are believed to have seen off competition from a number of clubs in both Scotland and Ireland for his signature.

Derry completed the signing of Paul McMullan last weekend after struggling in front of goals in recent weeks.

City boss Ruaidhrí Higgins said: "I really like his attributes. Danny is a proven goalscorer and he will add more quality to the group.

"We've had a look at him in training this week and I’m confident he is going to fit in really well.

"Himself and Paul McMullan are new players that our supporters will hopefully enjoy watching, and we’re working hard to have them both registered in time to feature in the match-night squad for Sligo Rovers on Friday.

"We’re coming into a very busy part of the season between the league, the start of the FAI cup and our European journey, but it’s something we can all really look forward to."

Harry Wood (left) has joined Shelbourne

Shelbourne's new ownership under Hull City chief Acun Ilicali has taken its first step with a double signing from the Championship club.

The Reds came under Ilicali's leadership last month with plans to work together with the Championship side including player development.

Central midfielder Harry Wood has joined on loan for the rest of the year.

Wood was a mainstay in the Hull Under-21s last season, with notable performances being a hat-trick against Charlton and netting in the national Professional Development League semi-final against Millwall.

The 20-year-old made his EFL Championship debut in Hull City's final game of the season against Luton Town.

Shelbourne head coach Damien Duff said: "We are very happy to have Harry Wood in the building. He has a high level of technical ability and he will no doubt improve our squad. We were impressed with everything we heard and saw of Harry and were even more so after training yesterday. He is very honest and hard working and will fit nicely into our culture."

The Reds have also added a second senior goalkeeper to their squad following the departure of Scott van der Sluis for Love Island.

Harry Fisk has moved to Tolka Park on a permanent deal with the 20-year-old already having loan spells at non-league level in England.

Dundalk have made their first new signing with Scottish defender Darren Brownlie joining from Partick Thistle.

"I've been thinking about trying something new for a couple of years so when the opportunity came up to come to Dundalk, I was really excited by it," said Brownlie.

"Usually when you sign for a team in Scotland, you’re straight into pre-season so it’s different to come here and have a league run-in, cup competitions and Europe to look forward to.

"I’m looking forward to it. I got taken around the place and the set-up looks really good, so I just can’t wait to get started."

He replaces Wasiri Williams with the Swansea loanee ironically joining Partick with Brownlie going in the opposite direction.
