Galway United maintained their 13-point lead at the top of the League of Ireland First Division with a 1-0 over Kerry.

Maurice Nugent headed home the decisive goal just 11 minutes in at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Second-place Waterford hammered Finn Harps 6-1 at the RSC.

Connor Parsons scored twice in the opening 21 minutes and the Blues led by three when Ronan Coughlan got the first of his brace.

Ryan Flood responded with a penalty to make it 3-1 at the break but further goals from Coughlan, Eddie Nolan and Roland Idowu completed the rout.

Third-placed Cobh Ramblers increased the gap to Athlone Town to six points after winning 3-2 at Lissywollen.

Liam Kervick gave the visitors the lead in the 24th minute before Frantz Pierrot levelled in first-half injury-time.

Matthew Leal then put Athlone ahead in the 54th minute before Pierce Phillips equalised and Wilson Waweru won it for the Cork men with seven minutes left.

Bray Wanderers are only behind Athlone on goal difference following a 1-1 draw with Treaty United at Markets Field.

Both the goals came in the opening 15 minutes, Ben Feeney's effort for Bray quickly being cancelled out by Enda Curran.

Longford Town host Wexford on Saturday at 7.30pm.
