Former Republic of Ireland international Keith Treacy believes a move to a club with an environment similar to Brentford would be most suitable if Caoimhin Kelleher does depart Liverpool this summer.
A lack of first-team football has been the primary issue for the Boys in Green goalkeeper at Anfield, with the Cork native restricted to rare cameos.
But he is expected to depart soon, according to Ireland manager Stephen Kenny, who commented last week that "it looks like he'll be on the move this summer and he can only benefit [from that]".
The 24-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs including Brentford, particularly with the Premier League club's number one David Raya tipped for a big-money move away.
However, the Bees have signed Dutch international goalkeeper Mark Flekken for about €12m from SC Freiburg in the meantime which may well have closed that avenue for Kelleher, while the west London club also have a host of other goalkeepers contracted.
But speaking on the RTÉ Soccer Podcast, Treacy suggested that a club possessing a similar culture to Brentford would be ideal.
"There are options. I think Brentford would be a match made in heaven," he said.
"I think under Thomas Frank, they have this learning ethos that nobody gets on anybody's back when they make mistakes and I think Caoimhin would really thrive in that sort of situation."
Also speaking on the podcast, former St Patrick's Athletic and Shelbourne midfielder Conan Byrne pointed to Kelleher's main competitor for the Ireland number one jersey, Gavin Bazunu, likely having an abundance of game-time in the Championship for Southampton next season if he is restored to a starting spot.
"It's in the Championship where you play Saturday-Tuesday, so you're still getting plenty of game-time," he said.
"But you want your goalkeepers playing at the highest level and it's just unfortunate that Southampton got relegated."
Kelleher is not the only member of the Ireland squad that is lacking in game-time at club level and although Kenny has emphasised that he would like his players to be getting regular minutes, the manager has not always had room to manoeuver on that front in certain positions.
"From a player's point of view when you look at the players that will probably start against Greece, when you look at [Nathan] Collins, [Michael] Obafemi and [Matt] Doherty, these are players that haven't played a lot of minutes," said Treacy.
"So when Caoimhin knocks on Stephen Kenny's door and says, 'Why amn't I playing?' and Stephen's answer is, 'You're not getting enough minutes with your club', [Kelleher could ask], 'Well, how come the rest of the lads are playing?'
"It has to be one rule for all, not one rule for you and a different rule for somebody else. We had that with [Shane] Duffy as well, when Duffy wasn't playing at Brighton, he was still coming into the squad because we needed him.
"But if you're going to throw that 'you're not having enough minutes so you're not playing', I think it's a great rule but it has to be a blanket for the whole squad, [that] If you're not playing, you're not in contention unless you're an Evan Ferguson."
He added: "I've been around footballers for a long time and I know how they think so I'm just wary of Caoimhin thinking, 'How come that rule's for me and it doesn't seem to apply for everybody else in the squad?'"
