St Patrick's Athletic have handed Jon Daly the role of manager on a permanent basis following his successful interim spell.

The Saints parted company with Tim Clancy earlier in the month.

On Monday they said they've opted for Daly "following a comprehensive recruitment and interview process with a number of candidates".

Daly has been in charge in a temporary capacity for the last four matches, taking nine points from a possible 12, winning the games against Cork City [3-2], Drogheda United [3-0] and Shelbourne [1-0].

The only defeat in that run came against Shamrock Rovers after they conceded a late penalty which Richie Towell converted.

The Saints are fourth in the League of Ireland Premier Division table with 26 points from their 17 games so far, and play Europa Conference League qualifiers this summer.

Daly is delighted to be the new Saints boss.

He said: "I'm very happy to be the manager of this fantastic club and am looking forward to the challenge.

"I'd like to thank the club for the opportunity and will be doing my best for everyone involved in St Pat's.

"We've been happy with our performances over the last four games and have picked up three important wins.

"The attitude of the players has been excellent and we'll be looking to keep that going, starting on Friday against Dundalk in front of another big crowd at Richmond Park."

Jon Daly won three out of four matches as interim boss

Pat's chairman Garrett Kelleher said his club explored other options before sticking with their in-house man: "I'd like to congratulate Jon on his appointment. We went through a thorough recruitment process, Jon has made a very positive impact on the team in recent weeks, winning three of his four matches in charge and we wish him luck in his new role as manager."

Technical director Alan Mathews who oversees the football operations at the club added: "Jon stepped into the role as interim manager a few weeks ago and has not only delivered positive results, but some very positive performances too.

"He's fully committed, driven, and wants to take the club forward in a direction that is fully aligned with our wider strategy.

"We are delighted to give Jon his first opportunity in Management and we are looking to supporting him, and the rest of the first team staff, who will all remain in place, to help fulfil his ambitions and those of club."

After an almost 20-year playing career in England and Scotland, Daly moved into coaching in 2015, working in Scotland and Finland before heading to Ireland to link up with the Inchicore outfit.
