Katie McCabe has been included in the Republic of Ireland squad for April's double-header with the USA.

Vera Pauw's team continue their World Cup preparations with a clash against the world No 1-ranked Americans at the Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas on 8 April and at the brand new CityPark ground in St Louis, Missouri three days later. Both games wil be screened live on RTÉ2.

McCabe injured her foot when making a crunching tackle towards the end of Arsenal's Champions League quarter-final defeat of Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

She ended the night on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

However Pauw has included the Dubliner in her squad for the trip to the States.

"The biggest relief is of course that it is not a long-term injury, it is just a matter of whether she can play against the USA or not, but no fear for the World Cup."

"We are waiting on the final say of the doctor but her X-ray is clear and her scan is clear," said the manager.

"So, it looks like a very bad bruise on the bone and now the assessment is that if that bruise can heal in time she can play, but that is up to the doctor.

"The biggest relief is of course that it is not a long-term injury, it is just a matter of whether she can play against the USA or not, but no fear for the World Cup.

"When an injury like that occurs I step back, I do not interfere at all. We have a Plan A and a Plan B we discuss that among the technical staff. Then we wait for news. It is up to the doctors at that point."

When asked how good McCabe's chances were of travelling, Pauw replied: "Pretty high. If there’s no damage, it’s a matter if we can control the pain."

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall said the club are "hopeful" McCabe, could still be available to face Manchester City on Sunday.

Peamount United's Tara O'Hanlon and Aalannah McEvoy of Shamrock Rovers are rewarded for their good recent form in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division, while Lewes FC's Sophie White also gets a first call-up as goalkeeper cover.

Shelbourne's Jessie Stapleton is recalled to the senior fold.

Injuries rule out Niamh Fahey, Chloe Mustaki, Ellen Molloy, Jess Ziu and Leanne Kiernan, while Megan Campbell is unavailable due to personal reasons.

The squad will get together on Sunday and fly out the following day.
