Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has confirmed that he'll play no further part in the Anfield side's Premier League campaign due to a stress problem with an adductor.

The 18-year-old has been the breakthrough star this season - a year ago he was playing in the Under-21s - but having earned a regular place in the team he will now be sidelined until the next campaign.

"Unfortunately I've picked up an injury that will keep me out until the end of the season," Bajcetic said on his Instagram account on Thursday.

"It’s very sad to say goodbye to this amazing season for me but I understand this is part of football and will only make me stronger physically and mentally.

"I would also like to say thank you to you reds for all the support through the season and I assure you I will do my best to be back stronger than ever."

Bajcetic travelled to Madrid for the club's second-leg last-16 tie on Wednesday where they lost 1-0 on the night and 6-2 on aggregate to holders Read Madrid.

"A stress response in his adductor, which is absolutely bad," said manager Jurgen Klopp on the injury pre match. "He doesn't feel a lot but he is now out for I don't know exactly how long.

"We have to let it settle and we will see when he can come back."
