Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo has revealed on social media that he wants to leave the Premier League club for a "magnificent opportunity" elsewhere.
The PA news agency understands the Seagulls turned down an opening offer in the region of £60 million (€68.2m) from Arsenal on Friday for the Ecuador international.
It has also been reported that Chelsea have had an earlier bid of £55m (€62.6m) rebuffed by the south coast club.
Caicedo said on Instagram that he was "proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton" but did not specify which club he wanted to join.
The 21-year-old said he hoped that Brighton understood why "I want to take up this magnificent opportunity".
Caicedo said: "I am grateful to (Brighton chairman) Mr Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart.
"I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador. My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador.
"I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.
"The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity."
Caicedo had said on Brighton's official website earlier this week that he was focused solely on his current club.
Leandro Trossard has already swapped the south coast club for Arsenal in the current window in a deal worth an initial £21m (€23.9m) - but Brighton are determined to keep hold of Caicedo.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta refused to comment on Caicedo when asked about him after Friday night's 1-0 defeat at Manchester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Arteta said: "You know that I'm not going to comment on any players until anything is done and I will continue like that, sorry.
"As I said before we've been pretty active in the market. We have some necessities and if something is available the club is willing to try to do it, when it's reasonable and hopefully it's a player who can improve our squad."
As well as Trossard, Arteta has also added Poland defender Jakub Kiwior to his ranks this month.
Wolves have agreed to sign Joao Gomes from Flamengo for £15m (€17m).
The midfielder is due to travel to England next week for a medical. It marks the end of Wolves' chase after they pushed hard, with Flamengo keen for Gomes to join Lyon.
The Brazilian club have now agreed to let the 21-year-old move to Molineux with the Premier League his preferred destination.
Gomes only made his club debut in 2020 but has become a star in the Brasileirao.
Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui has been backed in the transfer window as the club battle to stay in the Premier League.
Gomes would become Lopetegui's sixth January signing after Mario Lemina, Pablo Sarabia, Matheus Cunha, Craig Dawson and Dan Bentley.
Wolves are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference and welcome Liverpool next on 4 February.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has not ruled out defender Nat Phillips leaving before the end of the transfer window.
The 25-year-old is fifth-choice centre-back and has made just five appearances this season and the recall of youngster Rhys Williams this week from a loan spell at Blackpool could pave the way for his departure.
"Depends if there are offers," said Klopp when asked if Phillips could leave.
"We have to be prepared for pretty much everything, the 31st is deadline day and we will see."
Leeds forward Joe Gelhardt has joined Championship side Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old is their third signing of the January window, with the Black Cats sat just one point outside the play-off places in ninth with 18 games left to play.
Gelhardt arrived at Elland Road from Wigan in 2020, and after playing in the Leeds youth set-up, he made his Premier League debut in October 2021.
He has made 15 league appearances so far for Jesse Marsch's team this season and could make his Sunderland debut against Millwall next week.
Gelhardt told the club website: "I know how big the club is and I'm really looking forward to meeting the lads and trying to help.
"I spoke with the Head Coach and the playing style seemed a perfect fit for me.
"I've watched Sunderland on the TV this season and seen some positive, attacking football and I can't wait to get involved."
Bournemouth have announced the signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.
The Ghana forward has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at the Vitality Stadium, with the Cherries retaining an option for a further year.
Semenyo becomes the club's third January signing as boss Gary O'Neil battles to keep them in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old joins experienced goalkeeper Darren Randolph and Burkina Faso forward Dango Ouattara in moving to the south coast.
Semenyo, who featured at the World Cup in Qatar, was born in England and came through the ranks at Bristol City.
He spent time out on loan at Bath City, Newport and Sunderland and scored 21 goals in 125 games for the Robins.
