Former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has been withdrawn from pre-season training with his Brazilian club Gremio after a potential heart issue was discovered.

The 35-year-old, who spent 10 years at Anfield between 2007 and 2017 before leaving for Lazio, is awaiting further tests after an abnormal rhythm was detected.

Lucas posted a statement from the club's medical department on Twitter which said he "presented, in the routine examinations of the pre-season, a picture of change in heart rhythm.

"(He was) consequently removed from physical activities until the completion of complementary tests and treatment of the condition."
