Record ranking for Ireland as Vera Pauw's side continue to surge

Vera Pauw's Republic of Ireland team continue to progress as they are now ranked at an all-time record high of 23rd in the FIFA Women's World rankings.

It is the third time this year that Ireland have set new records with their ranking position.

Pauw's Girls in Green began the year in 26th position, but are now ranked at 23. Their group opponents in the World Cup next year rank highly also.

Canada are in sixth position, while hosts Australia are in 12th and African champions Nigeria are in 45th spot.

Preparations continue for next year's tournament, with Brisbane confirmed as the base for the squad for the duration of the World Cup with their group clash with Nigeria taking place in the city. Matches against Australia and Canada are scheduled for Sydney and Perth respectively.
