Izzy Atkinson is hoping to make her case to Vera Pauw using both club and country in the coming months, starting this afternoon against Morocco.
The West Ham full-back has found game time limited and knows she must see action on the pitch in order to secure her seat on the plane to the World Cup in Australia next summer.
The current squad were told on Wednesday that only 23 players will be permitted to go to the competition – a blow to the likes of Atkinson as Ireland usually have a more extended panel for qualifiers and friendlies.
Three training players will also be included as back-ups but it means every player will need to make an impression in club football just to be considered.
Atkinson said: "Knowing that we can't bring 28 players (shows how difficult it will be to get in the squad). We found out that it's 23 players than can go and three training players when we've always had a squad of 28.
"At that, the squad will be smaller. With Shamrock Rovers coming into the WNL, and everything getting better in Ireland and England, the competition is getting more intense
"The past few weeks obviously I've been wanting to get more minutes with West Ham. I've been putting pressure on myself because I need to be playing as much as I can to get on the plane. I'm just going to keep pushing and hopefully get as many minutes as I can.
"Vera said that a lot of the girls like myself who haven't gotten a lot of minutes for the seniors will be the ones that play on Friday in a closed doors game. Players like myself will hopefully get a lot of minutes and hopefully I can do well and try and make an impact."
While Atkinson has been useful for the Hammers in coming off the bench, she feels that her performances merit more game time under manager Paul Konchesky and is not, at this point, considering a loan switch in a bid to boost her World Cup hopes.
"I've not really thought about stuff like that, as in going on loan. I do arguably feel like I should be getting more minutes at West Ham so I'm just going to keep working hard and staying confident.
"I do believe I should be getting more minutes at West Ham. I'm going to keep working hard and stay confident. I believe I should be getting more minutes. I'm just going to keep doing what I am doing and get into the team. I'm going to focus on that.
"It's quite frustrating to be honest but it's good that I have until next July. I have been doing well at West Ham but I've been disappointed with the minutes I've gotten. I have gotten a long time to get back into the team. I'm still confident I'll do that.
"In England the competition is (stronger). You could play the top team in England or the bottom team and you don't know what will happen. The league is so competitive any team can surprise you. It's such a good league."
The former Shelbourne player was unable to watch her friends complete the double last week as Noel King's side beat Athlone in Tallaght Stadium, but their success only reinforced her hope to one day return to Tolka Park near the end of her playing days.
"I had a game at the exact same time so I didn't get to see the final. The girls deserve it. The team is very close to my heart - my dad and I were saying I'll probably finish my career there. It's so good to see them winning.
"They really do deserve it, especially to the do the double and the league two years in a row. It's class to see. I'm happy and proud of them all."
Ireland play their behind-closed-doors game today against Morocco before a formal friendly on Monday against the same opposition.
