Shamrock Rovers bowed out of the UEFA Youth League after a creditable 1-1 draw against AZ Alkmaar at Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday night.

The damage had been done for the Hoops after they lost the first leg 5-0 in the Netherlands two weeks ago, but they produced a gutsy showing on their own patch to end their European campaign on a positive note.

Tom Kerssens put the Dutch outfit ahead in the 28th minute, with Mikey Leddy's leveller on the hour mark earned Rovers a draw.

AZ Alkmaar will next face either Red Star Belgrade or Omonia in the next round.
